Introduction: Gergő Gazdag, film handling, digitization associate, National Film Institute - Film Archive
Géza Bereményi came into contact with filmmaking as an author and screenwriter. Among his many successes is the storyline for Time Stands Still. The Disciples represented the opportunity for him to debut as a director. The work based on actual historical events is set in the 1930s and 1940s. The plot revolves around Zoltán Magyary (Kornél Gelley), a scientist working on reforming public administration, and his ‘disciples’ as seen from the perspective of a young man (Károly Eperjes) eager to learn who has moved from a rural farm to the capital. The topic, which at first sight may appear to be somewhat dry, is injected with life thanks to a dynamic screenplay and the expressive camera work of Sándor Kardos. In addition to Eperjes (who plays twin roles here), other main characters are realized by György Cserhalmi, Juli Básti and Ádám Rajhona.
