Usually, we may see mostly comedies directed by Billy Wilder. However, he was a master director of long-lasting films in any genre. Being also a screenwriter, he knew how to approach any human character, how to create memorable characters facing memorable clashes. This time, an ominous drama, way ahead of its time, is about the abuse of the power of the press and an absurd situation twisted as a device used for misuse. Kirk Douglas plays a small-town reporter who manipulates an almost fatal accident to lift his own career.
